Black tea sold at $600 a kg

Glendale Tea estate, Coonoor is reviving their claim to the Guinness Book of Records committee of having sold their black tea Super-Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe grade for a price of $600 for a kilo. The estate had auctioned their black tea at the world tea expo that was held in March 2006 at Las Vegas. Ms Jennifer Cauble from the Tea Tasting Company in Forth Worth Express, Texas purchased the tea.
According to Glendale estates group manager K. Vinod Shenai, the first claim to enter the GWR was submitted on January 29, 2007 and the GWR sent an email on February 8 rejecting the proposal stating that they already had a record for this category. He said that the committee had mentioned in the email that the current world record for the most expensive tea is a Chinese green tea called Tieguanyin, whic-h costs 1,700 Yuan ($3,000) per kilo approximately 8.50 Yuan ($15) for a single cup.
