Sony’s film downloads

Sony is planning to launch a movie download service to deal with stiff competition from Apple’s iPod and iTunes. Though Sony was the undisputed giant in the field of music players, it has now fallen behind Apple, which created a virtual storm with its iPod.
The company is now planning to introduce a series of Walkman players with LCD screens. They will be equipped with Windows Media Player 11. The movie download service will complement this player as iTunes complements iPod.
However, critics say that Sony’s decision to link movie downloads with its play station consoles and Bravia TVs also may create problems. It has already been forced to close down its Connect music service which did not appeal the users.
